Deleting Data From RWs

Does OS X have a way of letting you delete data from a CD/DVD-RW?
I tried just dragging the data into the trash can, but I get a message telling me that I dont have sufficient priviliges (but currently logged in as admin)

Disk Utility can erase RW discs.

All the erasing options are greyed out!

Would it help if I said the DVD-RW comes from a DVD recorder you attach to your TV to record stuff?
