Deleting first letter of name or email address

All of a sudden, the computer is deleting the first letter of my user name or email address that I am trying to type into forms or websites. Is there a setting or something I need to update or fix? I am having this issue on my iMac with OS X El Capitan. It is just irritating because if you don't notice it and fix it, you get an error message. Thanks for your help! - Billie
