Adding a word to the custom dictionary is a simple one click affair - which can be a problem if you accidentally add a bad spelling. I have done that and I have looked high and low for what I assumed would be a simple way to delete a word from the Custom Dictionary. I found and tried to follow instructions at http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/using-custom-dictionaries-in-word-2011-for-mac.html but things did not happen as described there.

They say:
"In Word, choose File→Open."

No problem there except that it goes to the last folder I was using, so I went to the folder for Microsoft Office 2012.

"Select All Files from the Enable pop-up menu."

I did this.

"Choose the .dic file you want to use and click Open".

But where is this file - I did a search on my entire computer for files with the extension ".dic" and finally found two (and only two) that looked promising called wordlist_chs.dic and wordlist.cht.dic

"Click the Show button on Word’s Standard toolbar to toggle on the ability to see paragraph marks if they aren’t showing already".

Here, they got way ahead of me - when I clicked open" using text edit I got pages and pages of symbol gibberish but no strings of normal English. Maybe this isn't even the Custom Dictionary. But I am utterly lost :confused:and find it hard to believe that there is not some much much easier way of just getting rid of a bad entry in the custom dictionary.

Help greatly appreciated!
