I'm sure this has been asked before but I just can't find the thread now I need it. How do we delete iMessage attachments in Yosemite? I've tried Details -> (popup) -> right click -> delete and SOMETIMES this works and other times it doesn't and it just leaves the image there, laughing at me.

If I select multiple attachments and choose to delete all then nothing gets deleted. I have a smart search in my Finder that shows me all images that are iMessage attachments, however just deleting an image from there results in a generic 'file' icon in the details panel that then has to be deleted again, so this doesn't seem to be a viable way of doing it.

So, any ideas? I'm not that short on storage but I can imagine that some people with low storage SSDs could run into a problem eventually.

I'll add that I like keeping the conversations for a while (even though search really doesn't work on them too well) so deleting the entire conversation isn't ideal either - even though that DOES seem to clear out associated attachments too.

Is there no setting on OS X similar to iOS that will expire photo/video/audio messages after a time limit? Oh, and with all this cloud stuff lately, why can't clearing an attachment on one device clear it from all?
