deleting mail question

hi, new iphone user here, i am trying to delete my mail, but every time i start deleting messages from gmail it keeps trying to download the same messages and i am getting nowhere. i will delete 10 and it will download the same 10.

anyone know what i'm doing wrong or how to delete all of these easily ?
