Hi,

Just bought my first mac two days ago, it is a 24inch iMac. I am loving it but I am kind of annoyed that everytimeI want to delete a file on my desktop I have to hold down command and then hit the delete/backspace button.

I noticed there is another delete key on the keyboard by the page down and up buttons that seems to do nothing. Is there a way to set that delete button to delete things just by pressing it or is there a way of deleting on macs using one keystroke instead of command & delete/backspace?

Thanks!

In the Keyboard & Mouse preference pane you can change shortcuts in any app so long as you know the command name exactly. For what you want, click the plus sign and select Finder. Then put "Move to Trash" in the field and make whatever shortcut you want (like just delete or delete/backspace).

Actually. I just tried this while posting and it appears you can't use either delete in shortcuts. Wtf?

This is true, neither delete key can be used, so I simply assigned the F13 key on my keyboard to the Finder Cut command and it sends files to the trash with one key stroke.
