Deleting photos but preserving project

I made a photo book with loads of old slide scans and photo scans. The book has been printed and I would like to keep the project. The photos are in my photos library scattered around. I would like to remove the duplicates but also not effect the book project. Some old scans I have also put into albums (me trying to be organised), so I don’t want to delete from there either.

Is there a way or a warning that will tell me if the photo is in a project or album before I delete?
