I have just deleted some folders from Time Machine (by clicking on the gears and then clicking "delete all backups of ..... "), but I didn't get the hard drive space back on the Time Capsule.

I deleted about 50GB but Time Capsule reports having the same amount of space available as before the deletion.

Is this usual? How do I get the space back?

Did you empty your trash while the hard drive was plugged in? Give that a shot to clear up space.

Yes, but your harddrive has a folder on it that is hidden and called "trash". It stores all of the data there until it is emptied. Just create a a file on the desktop, trash it, while the hard drive is plugged in and then empty it.

Thats all I got, sorry I could not help, hopefully somebody else will chime in soon for you.

If you re all up to date and need nothing in Time Machine, just reformat the drive and start Time Machine again.

I just did this a few weeks ago as my external drive was loosing space.

i might do that if no-one knows how to get the space back otherwise.
