I'm having difficulty getting this sorted out. I am pretty sure that the tr command can be used to delete all characters between two other characters, such as:

*739d48<
*2ce<
*c1198g644<

How would I invoke tr to delete all characters between the '*' and the '<' in a text file? This file has about 400 of these.

TIA.
