Hi,

I am currently using NEC PA271W-BK 27" inch 2560x1440 monitor and want something larger and sharper for photo editing
as well as Final Cut X such as Dell Dell UltraSharp UP3221Q 31.5" 16:9 PremierColor 4K HDR IPS Monitor or U2720Q UltraSharp 27" 16:9 UHD IPS Monitor.

I saw the Apple Studio Display at the store and it looked incredible. Now the specs don't live up to my impression but I definitely
noticed the sharpness at 218ppi @5k.

I would like the color accurate Dell UltraSharp UP3221Q 31.5" 16:9 PremierColor 4K HDR IPS Monitor but it is only 140ppi and the 27" U2720Q is 163ppi.

I usually sit about 20-24 inches away from my current 7 inch monitor.

Will I notice a huge difference between 218pp and 163/140ppi at this distance. I do not have access to the Dell 31.5" display and while I can return it the package is about 50 pounds and I would prefer to do my research before buying.

Thanks

Only you will be able to answer that question. I'll say this: I have both 163 ppi and 218 ppi monitors side-by-side and sit at a similar distance. There's a difference in sharpness I can see right away. 163 ppi is still acceptable to me but I wouldn't want to go any lower. 218 ppi is perfect.

I've looked at different 27" 4k non-apple monitors and definitely notice they are sharper than my 2560x1440 monitor. however, when i look at studio display and apple xdr the difference is stunning. i am just looking for a monitor that is similar to my 14" mbp display but it seems that the apple monitor is the only choice. contemplating xdr since my last secondary monitor lasted 14 years so it's worth buying right once. I got the NEC pa271 about 9 years ago and want to upgrade for 4k and hdr.

Thanks everyone!!! Will either wait for apple studio display or perhaps pro xdr display to go down in price a bit more. I am too used to the quality of apple retina and want to buy right once.
