I have a 1.25 MDD G4 currently, and i'm waiting to upgrade for when the Intel based desktops are released. I am currently using two Dell 19" CRT monitors. My main application is Logic.
I have been hoping to get a LCD monitor. The Apples simply seem too expensive for me, and it doesn't seem that they are clearly the "best" out there to fully justify the prices (nor are the dells the best, but the prices are far more reasonable). The Dell 2405 seems to be an AMAZING deal, as they can be had for little more than 500 bucks. The 2407 isn't a bad deal either, but the only difference seems to be the HDCP/HDMI connector on it.
A few questions. Is there any reason that I need the HDCP/HDMI connector as opposed to the DVI connections? I'm thinking of getting a PS3 whenever they are available (or a HD-DVD player if I don't get a PS3) someday. Won't there likely be convertors between HDMI and DVI?
Also, is there any chance that my current G4 with the stock video card will run the 24" display over DVI or does it need dual link DVI? I'll probably not be upgrading this machine, as it's getting a little old and the new Intel will be out soon.
