Dell 2709W monitor and Macbook

I want to get this monitor for my new PC at work but wondering if it will work with my second machine, a macbook which I got about 4 months ago.

Currently have 2 17" monitors but thinking of just having this one monitor

You won't be able to drive the display at its native resolution, only to 1920x1200.

You sure can. I think you can also use the Macbook in Clamshell mode, or this is just for the macbook pro.
