I am rewriting this because I messed up on the first post.

Dell is piloting the new Dell DJ Ditto (oops, it's Ditty). It will feature a whopping 512mb flash drive, yet it claims to offer as many as twice as much songs as iPod Shuffle, but in the terms, you can tell why.

Here is a direct quote from the terms:

*Dell Dj Ditty/Apple® iPod® Shuffle 512mb comparisons: Comparison between Dell's song count at 64kbps WMA encoding based on 4 minute/avg. per song and Apple's published claims also based on 4 minute/avg. per song. Comparisons are accurate as of 9/9/05. Check websites for current information. Dell DJ Ditty song count assumes audio format is 74kbps WMA encoding with average song length of 4 minutes. Dell DJ MB: For writable storage devices, MB means 1 million bytes; total accessible capacity varies depending on operating environment.

Pathetic.

It looks beautiful. I WANT ONE!!

you know it's depressing that your makeing that post in jest put people acctually share that opinion (this applys to most of your posts)

From the AP article released today...

"Dell billed its DJ Ditty as a better value than the Shuffle. Both devices are $99 and come equipped with 512 megabytes of memory, but because the Ditty uses an audio format that compresses digital music files more efficiently, Dell asserts the Ditty can hold up to 220 songs while the same-sized Shuffle stores about 120."

I'd be laughing my a$$ off, but people actually believe this rubbish...

Of course, one could always encode at 32kbps AAC and fit 480 songs on the Shuffle and still get better sound quality than on the DJ  :p :p :D

They forgot to mention that the iPod shuffle list that it is near CD quality, nowhere do I see that even listed for the Ditty.

Ditty... hahaha!

I was watching the VH1 Sunday version of Rock Star INXS (Yeah I am that lame) and noticed that the band gave one of these disgusting things to each of the three remaining contestants. The depressing thing about this, the show is very popular among the 13-24 crowd.. Just the type of people that would buy this trash. Of course with Rock star being backed by MSN you know there is no chance of seeing an iPod on the show.

I don't know why but I keep reading it as "Dell DJ Dirty" instead of "Dell DJ Ditty".

It doesn't look that bad, but the ergonomics of it don't seem to comfortable to me. I would want to hold the unit vertically (like the Shuffle) and be able to press buttons AND view the display correctly. Seems here in order to view the display right-side-up you have to hold it horizontally which doesn't seem as natural as vertical.

this will sink the ipod. buy dell stock now!!!

if you get one of these for christmas, would it be rude to give it back?

Surely that's not legal. It's consumer deception.
