I hooked up my macbook pro to a mini display port to a dvi -> hdmi to my tv no problem. However, when I hooked up the mini display -> dell monitor, I get nothing. The screen is black. The weird thing is that my macbook pro recognizes that a second monitor is plugged in... it just won't display anything

did you select the proper input via osd?

Yeah! I have tried "Auto Detect", "Analog Input" and "Digital Input". I have also turned the laptop off and on, still nothing. Works with my mac mini like a charm, but that is mini dvi-> dvi instead of this mini display port.

what model monitor are you using? which input via which adaptors?

It is a dell E207WFP. I have the 2010 MBP 13" with a mini display -> DVI. The dell is plugged in via DVI.

I have confirmed that the dell does work with my older mac mini via mini dvi, and I have confirmed that the MBP does work with my TV hooked up via DVI.

I have a similar problem, however my display just does not at all register with the computer. It's a flat screen Ultrasharp Dell display connected through a DVI to mini display into a macbook pro 17 inch 2009. I've done everything these forums suggest so far, rebooting, changing the order in which i plug in, disabling the automatic screen dimming. PLease help! This is doing my head in, i really need this extra display for recording purposes.
Thanks in advance!

Bumping this thread because I have the exact same problem except I'm trying to hook up a 2008 Macbook to a Dell 1909W monitor though Mini DVI- DVI. The Macbook detects the monitor, but nothing pops up on the Dell screen. Would it have something to do with a driver that I need?
