Hi i am new to the forum but have been reading it for a long time

I want to buy a computer monitor (this one) and apple tv. this monitor has a hdmi input. will it work with apple tv? and if i want to connect my laptop (its an hp laptop) at the same time will it be possible?
what about audio? apple tv has no audio out i think? how can i connect my speakers?
and if i want to connect a set top box later (most probably from dish tv) how can i connect that?
and what do you suggest should i buy this monitor or a 26inch tv? any recommendations for tvs under 300$?

thanks you guys are awesome :D:D

Yes it will work. A monitor and TV are basically the same thing in this regard. In most cases, a TV is going to present movies and tv content better though. On the other hand, I think using a TV as a computer monitor is terrible (much lower resolution, especially > 23 inches).

Apple TV only has audio out so you'll need to carry audio over HDMI. Unfortunately, the link only sent me to the general site so I can't comment on the monitor you're looking at. Those with audio out should work when using HDMI input to the monitor.

As for connecting your set top box, it depends on the output of the box. Some are composite, in which case most monitors won't support it. Some may output HDMI (none that I've owned, so I'm not sure), which should work.

I think using a monitor for the Apple TV should work for you in the short term. Once you start getting more than two devices inputting to one monitor, I'd suggest getting a separate TV. At that point, it's very likely you'll want to use two of those devices at the same time. I'd suggest reading a bit more about the audio situation because I'm not entirely sure my answer is correct (I'm mostly inferring from how other devices work). Good luck.

thanks for quick reply!
i was talking about this monitor (hope it works this time)

it says it has audio out so maybe it will work!:D:D

if the link doesnt work the monitor's model number is ST2410

Thanks for listing the model number, that helps. Ok it should work, in theory. You may want to post this in the Apple TV forums to be sure carrying the audio signal will work.

That should work pretty well as a computer monitor and tv. It's really a shame that manufacturers are going for the "Full HD" marketing bit. You're losing about 120 vertical pixels going for the 16:9 ratio as opposed to the 16:10 1920x1200 resolution. Getting off my soapbox, I think this should work well for you.
