Dell has 2 very good monitors on sale right now and I am definitely going to buy one. But I just can't decide which one to get!

Basically it boils down to this; is IPS worth the extra $50 and also a smaller inch of screen size.

Dell Ultrasharp U2311H - $239

295

vs.

Dell Professional P2411H - $189

295

Absolutely get the Ultrasharp. The P means Professional only to sell monitors. They are terrible. They gave me a 24" G (the LED version) at work and I gave it back. I kept my 5 year old 17" Ultrasharp.

The Ultrasharp is quite good. I have two Ultrasharp 24's. An old one at home and finally a new one at work. They're great.

P2411H comes with a TN panel and U2311H comes with IPS. Ultrasharp series is the way to go if you're getting Dell.

Ultrasharp

Contrast Ratio:
1000 to 1 (typical), 10,000:1 (dynamic)
Brightness:
300 cd/m2
Response Time:
8ms (gray to gray)
Viewing Angle
(178° vertical / 178° horizontal)
Color Gamut:
82% (100% sRGB coverage)

----------------------------------

Professional

Contrast Ratio:
1000 : 1 (typical), 2 million:1 (dynamic)
Brightness:
250 cd/m2
Response Time:
5 ms panel (Black to White)
Max Viewing Angle (vertical/horizontal):
160°(vertical) / 170°( horizontal)
Color Support:
Color Gamut (typical): 81% (CIE 1976)2
Color Depth: 16.7 million colors

I'd say you can't go wrong either way. I like the connectivity of the ultrasharp, but the reviews of the ultrasharp seem better. I would have to see them side-by-side to say for sure, but I would probably go with the ultrasharp.

The P has a TN panel, horrible.

I'm also thinking to buy Dell U2311H. I won't use it for prof. gaming, but sometimes I want to play something and don't want to have lag...

Any good for that purpose?

I'd recommend this one LG E2360V-PN. It looks really good, has brilliant colours, its pretty cheap (190 euros in germany). I have two of them connected to my mac pro, one on either side of a 30" Apple.

I use the u23 on my gaming desktop the input lag isn't an issue get the ips! It's amazing

I just got the U2311H about a week ago and I am so glad I did. It looks incredible. I got it for design work and photo editing. For gaming it looks nice but its not quite as fast and responsive as other lower end monitors. I would so far highly recommend it unless you're a hardcore gamer.

Thanks, I will take a look at it.
I game sometimes (Black Ops) and mostly stream movies.

I am also looking at the U2311H, I'm trying to find the best monitor to edit pictures right at the $300 range that includes 1080P at least and an HDMI input. My only thing is if I'm going to spend that much money I want to be able to game on it with my Xbox 360 and for Blu Ray Movies with my PS3. I've had and played on a 23" HP Monitor that had 6ms response and it was so bad I couldn't play on it.

Did you even read the thread?

Don't think my 2311H has a HDMI input, though.

Ended up buying the P24. It arrived a few days ago.

I have to say I was a little disappointed with the colours but the extra screen size and bigger pixel pitch makes text very easy to read.

you got a 12:1 rating for the ultrascharp and still you got the other one...

seems to me you already knew which one you wanted...
