I tried searching around the last couple of days and haven't found much.
I bought a Dell U2311H Ultrasharp monitor earlier this month from the Canadian Online Dell Store to use with my 2009 15" Macbook Pro. It is connected with a Mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable. I have been noticing that it suffers from what I would call somewhat severe image retention/ghosting/whatever else you want to call it. Anytime a mainly white window such as a finder window or the borders of any other application are sitting on the screen for about 10-15 minutes in the same location, I will be able to see a ghost of the image once a mainly dark (grey/black)image/website is brought to the same location.
I've never really experienced anything like this with a computer monitor before and find it kind of odd. I settled on the U2311H because it is relatively high end and has great reviews. I mainly use it for web browsing and also have an Xbox 360 hooked up for occasional gaming. I never expected it to have an issue like this and I love everything about it except this one flaw even though it goes away after about 5 minutes. My question is: what am I doing wrong? Am I supposed to baby the monitor and make sure no window sits in the same location for 10 minutes? Do I have the settings wrong somehow (see below). Is the monitor damaged? Is this something that typically happens with IPS panels?
I don't know a ton about monitors but I spent a fair bit of time researching and nothing like this ever came up. It'd be great if I could here some opinions on if it should be returned to Dell or not. It's not a huge issues but from time to time it is very noticeable on what I consider a professional monitor.
Anyway here are the settings I use in case I'm doing something wrong (almost all default):
Brightness: 25
Contrast: 75
Input Colour Format: RGB
Gamma: Mac
Mode Selection: Graphics
Preset Modes: Standard
Everything else is completely default.
