For some reason our Dell U2415 display occasionally shows a "Entering power save mode" and no matter what I do on the Mac Mini (late-2012 i5/OSX 10.9.5) I can't get it to wake up again.

Even disconnecting and reconnecting the display cable on the back of the Mini doesn't help. The Mac's constantly lit white LED shows it's not sleeping, so this doesn't make sense.

The only thing that helps is to press (and hold) the Mini's power button until it's forced to turn off, then turn it on again. Does anyone know why this is happening and what the solution may be? I haven't been able to find out anything from the display's user manual.

Are you connecting it via HDMI, or DisplayPort? I've had trouble with HDMI needing a full reboot once in a while, but when I got a DisplayPort compatible monitor on my late-2012 Mini, it's worked flawlessly since. Looks like the U2415 has both DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort connections, so either a mDP to mDP cable or mDP to DP cable would work.

Oh, and with DisplayPort cables - go for CERTIFIED, not just "Compatible". Saves you headaches.

I have the exact same problem with my Dell SE2416H! If my Mac Mini goes to sleep for a while (24-48 hours of non use), I cannot get the monitor to wake up. It's connected via HDMI to USB C adaptor. My second monitor is a Samsung U28E590 which connects directly via HDMI. Never had this issue with my 2012 mini.
