Over the past few months I have been hammering my Dell account rep about how screwed up the B2B website he created was. I would be trying different configuration options and would end up not being able to get back to the one I had decided on.

Over the weekend, I read the thread about Crucial and their dynamic pricing methods. Like all posters, I found this to be reprehensible and was glad I did not do business with them.

Today I needed to order 4 desktops. I spec'd the 390 and found what I was looking for at ~$1800. I printed the Dell spec sheet and gave it to a staff member to order two of. I also told her to spec out two 380's and get us the best composite deal @ ~$1200.

I received a call from her a couple hours later. Going through our same B2B site, she could not duplicate the same price I had. She said what was even weirder, when she was trying different 380 configurations, she could not get the same price she had earlier come up with.

Thinking back to this weekend's reading, I told her to go in and delete all of her cookies and try again. She reported back that things seemed to have reverted back. However, she tried different configurations and the problems again appeared.

Then, I told her about the reading I had been doing on this site and we both agree this is exactly the same situation we were experiencing.

So, there it is. Any doubters out there can make a similar experiment. It may not work in a 'fixed' pricing scenario a home buyer gets. However, I suspect it might. Print out different configurations and come back to your originals. See if they change.
