DellU27 Monitor Issue and New MBP

Just got my new 17 inch MacBook Pro and I its not recognizing my External monitor, Dell U27, the max resolution it gives me is 1920x1080 using an apple DVI adapter, and my old 2008 MBP I could go 2560x1440.

Kind of frustrating as the my old MBP, was plug and play, any ideas?

Not sure why it isn't working with your DVI method, but why not use a mini DP to DP cable, as that definitely will work.

Single Link DVI max res is 1920x1200, You will need a Mini-DP to Dual-Link DVI to go higher than that.

If the LCD supports DisplayPort, just use that.

Use a D-DVI cable or get a mini-DP to DP adaptor, the Dell comes with a DP cable already.
