Riley Testut, known for the Delta Game Emulator and AltStore, today announced the upcoming launch of a new app called Delta Camera. Delta Camera is a standalone app that is meant to mimic the style of the Game Boy Camera.

The interface mirrors the Game Boy Camera, as do the photos that it captures. Though the images have a retro vibe, the app includes modern features like Camera Control support, front and rear camera integration, manual exposure, and zoom options.

The Game Boy Camera is a Game Boy add-on that first came out in 1998. It takes grayscale images and supports editing and drawing features.

Testut plans to launch the app later this year, but it is available now for those who subscribe to the AltStore Patreon.

I have a cool case that turns my 15PM into a GameBoy emulator with physical buttons, this will be even cooler to use with it!

Not the first one to do it. I remember downloading an app that clearly was inspired by GBC like a decade ago.

Oh so that IS the vibe he was going for! I knew it looked familiar

I still have my old Game Boy Pocket and Game Bot Camera with me and while it unfortunately looks like I wiped the GBC at some point (it only has one photo saved) the battery is still holding up after 20+ years

I’m really happy to see he’s also replicating the style of the UI - if you’ve ever used (played?) the Game Boy Camera you know why
Hopefully he remembered to implement some unsettlingly edited photos for the error messages as well

I have already seen similar apps, but that’s not what I am interested in. Maybe I don’t get all the nostalgia bc I was much younger than people who have been into GameBoy. But I have had PSP, and had seen a resurgence of this vibe on the web in recent years. Despite me personally having no camera add-on when I had it, people are enjoying this even nowadays:

I want an app that would provide random (or even AI assisted) emulations that will simulate the look and feel of a film camera or older digicams. I mean, so it will work algorithmically and have 1000+ variations, can use RAW and ProRAW as a base for more natural noise, as well as be flexible, so that you can disable certain elements in it like lens flares, frames, lens distortions etc.

I had tried and seen many of similar apps on AppStore but all of them are very basic, they just use some very low quality, cheesy filters on top of images and call it a day. You don’t have precise controls over many image aspects, as well as most of them are subscription-based. I mean, it is not that hard to make an app that would simulate digicam look by using RAW pipeline and normal, high quality overlays not some 240p stuff they have downloaded off the web

Will try this out when it becomes available on the app store. Will be fun to use it.

who wanted a low res. B&W gameboy camera in 1998 and for what reason?
my only guess is, its a kids toy. You capture an image and get excited over it. The price is right though, for $50 MSRP I think.

I remembered taking one of the first photos of my brother and sister in law together with an app like this on my iPhone. I was able to find it pretty quickly and yep, December 2012. Odd that this is what makes the news in 2025. Would be interesting if you could use a USB-C adapter to plug in the GameBoy Printer.
