I sold my old ibook, and it I'm trying to delete all info thats mine on it..
I've got rid of everthing but one thing...

Whenever I log on, it always still says, for example " Bob Bakers" computer... Now I want to get rid of that, what do I do?

You REALLY should use the Installer DVD to erase the HD (multi-pass) and reinstall OS X before selling it to someone. They can recover your data fairly easily.

FWIW, what's you're looking for is in the Sharing prefpane.

Why don't you just do an Erase and Install to give the new person a fresh OS and remove all traces of you from the machine?

Thanks for the replys... I would do a full erase, but I no longer have my OS 10.3 panther CD's. I have Tiger CD's, but the ibook has no DVD drive

Any other suggestions?

Now how does this make any sense what so ever. You don't have the panther CDs but you have Tiger CDs why the hell does it matter if your iBook doesn't have a DVD drive

I can't boot from the CD drive....becuase the tiger disk is a DVD.. I guess I'll just use firewire disk mode...

That's kinda lame that you're giving the buyer dics they can't even use.
What else can I do :(

Don't worry, he has other macs, so he wont have any trouble..

EDIT: or maybe I should just wipe the hard drive...

Seems to me you need to either buy him some Panther discs or send him a completely wiped hard drive and allow him to install his own OS (making sure that this is accounted for in the agreed-upon price).

hi! my ibook is about three months old and i've just sold it (buying a macbook). i have the same query, this is my first mac and i don't want my files left there for the new user to find.

sorry for the lame question, but can you tell me step-by-step how to erase the data there? and this sharing prefpane - does it appear when you load the os installer? i've got all my cds in the box so i wouldn;t have a problem on that score.

now, i'm just backing up all my files in cds...:(
