This seems kind of backwards to me. There is no doubt about it that the 11 Pro series are the best iPhones ever, but the X was the most revolutionary iPhone ever. Same with the Xs max being the first plus sized “all screen” iPhone.

I had zero issues buying an X on launch day without preordering. Same last year with a Max. According to someone at my local TMobile store, the demand this year is “insatiable” and “unrelenting”. Call any local phone store or Apple store and you can just hear it in the salesperson’s voice how tired they are of getting the “do you have any 11 pro in stock” call for their entire 8 hour shift. This was supposed to be an “off” year too, with all the speculation about next year.

And none of those folks that were predicting doom have much to say about just being .... terribly wrong.

The iPhone 11 in purple and green sold out in minutes in China, and as you note demand is strong here. Lines formed outside Apple stores on launch day even though you could pre-order.

But don’t worry, they’ll all be back soon to tell us how bad Christmas will be for Apple, it just isn’t time yet.

Could be a lot of iPhone 6/6s owners are ready for a new phone this year and were just holding on a bit longer. Perhaps it's 5s/SE owners admitting that it is time for a larger phone or a lot of 7's coming off contract.

Truth be told the Xr/Xs didn't interest me much. For some reason the iPhone 11 really does interest me. Not enough to blow so much money on a phone. But enough to be tempting.

The people who predict Apple will fail every year or sales will be awful always disappear after it’s proven false and won’t come back until next year to do the same thing.

Battery or Camera are not a concern for me on my Xs Max.

Emotionally, I'm not ready to give up 3D Touch. YMMV

That’s because none of us have been proven ‘terribly wrong’ yet.

These are the same iPhones with the same flaws from last year, with better cameras (and, arguably, a better design for the back and camera ‘mesa’ bump).

It’s less that these models are selling better, it’s more that less stock is available, making it seem like ‘stock sells out’ quicker.

Numbers, so far, are still below par - Apple is just very very good at smoke and mirrors and catering to the confirmation bias of their fanboys.

Apple knows that they will take a financial and sales hit one last year before 2020, and has stocked up inventory accordingly low.

As long as Apple doesn’t have a functional replacement for Home Button and TouchID, there is nothing of interest with these models.

Since 2020 models promise TouchID it’s a good assumption that a (virtual) Home Button will be back before long. Easy to implement in software, since Assistive Touch already provides that.

If you look at the 9-5 Mac link above, you’ll see that retailers in China report sales 300% over last year’s sales...

We will know how Apple is doing in a few weeks as it’s the end of the quarter.

I could buy the iPhone 11 Pro max on launch day without pre-ordering, but decided not to do it after playing with it.

A couple of days after launch, I could do the same.

Only now there is a delay, but that is most likely due to people buying phones for resale purposes as I don’t see many iPhone 11 Pro’s in the wild yet.
