I have a scanner whose driver is out of date so I have turned to sane to try to get it recognized by my computer. I installed sane using MacPorts.

It is showing some promise:

$ sane-find-scanner
found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [Hewlett-Packard], product=0x1205 [hp scanjet scanner], chip=HP4500C/4570C/5500C/5550C/5590/7650) at libusb:036:003

But 'Image capture' does not recognize the scanner (Devices is empty). Is there a way to bind it to sane?

I've just installed libusb, sane backends and twain-sane using 'available installer packages'.

Is that supposed to have Image Capture recognize the device? It has not although at the command line:

$ scanimage -L
device `hp5590:libusb:038:002' is a HP 4500C/5550C Workgroup scanner

I used to have to do this. It only worked in adobe acrobat. Otherwise try another scan app
