An eminent French cardiologist has triggered an impassioned debate in the medical world over his claim to have discovered a cure for alcoholism.

Dr Olivier Ameisen, 55, one of France's top heart specialists, says he overcame his own addiction to alcohol by self-administering doses of a muscle-relaxant called baclofen.

AA will fight this tooth and nail if it is indeed a cure for alcoholism. They will lose a lot of funding and their grasp on people whom lack the self discipline to control their drinking.

Researchers claim LSD may treat alcoholism as well. The resources are all in print, but they exist. Linkity Dink.
Wikipedia said:
Some studies in the 1950s that used LSD to treat alcoholism professed a 50% success rate,[49] five times higher than estimates near 10% for Alcoholics Anonymous.[50] These studies were criticized for methodological flaws, and different groups had inconsistent results. Mangini's 1998 paper reviewed this history. She concluded that the efficacy of LSD in treating alcoholism remains an open question.

But Baclofen itself is addictive.

BA in your future?? I'll stick to beer, thanks.

We treat heroin addiction with methodone, and this guy wants to treat alcohol abuse with trancs. Sounds good, lets get right on that.
