What are the requirements in terms creating the graphics for a game on the iPhone? I am a confident user of Maya 3d animation package and wondering if this is overkill or an appropriate piece of software to create some games. I have a mate who can programme and is keen to look into developing something for iPhone but we are both pretty new to the technology although he is a super whizz programmer and wont have any problems picking it up and running with it.

The iPhone OpenGL ES stuff shouldn't be a hurdle for a 3d graphics whiz. There are constraints and hard performance limits to think about though. It will be a lot easier if you know how to keep your 3d graphics performance requirements well under 500k triangles per second, with less than 20 MB of total texture data.

Start by reading the copious documentation available on the Apple iPhone developer web site.
