So, I have an odd situation.

My desktop randomly disappears. The icons all go away, and right clicking on it doesn't bring up any menus (the background stays, but I don't think it changes). Also, clicking on the desktop doesn't bring up Finder but if I click on the dock icon, finder works fine.

I tried deleting my com.apple.desktop.plist file, but it didn't help besides resetting the background...

What else can I do?

Even logging out and logging back in fixes the problem. It's just that it starts happening after, i don't know what, and I'd like to fix the problem without making a new account.

EDIT: Leaving the computer on overnight seems to cause the problem.

I understand, but, apply that logic to your car. "I'd like to keep it running well without having to change the oil every 3 months or 3,000 miles." Not gonna happen.

It's certainly worth a try to test another account. If it still fails, then you know that migrating to a new account isn't going to help. If it is fixed, it's your call.
