Hi guys,
I've just managed to collect a G5 Quad with a GeForce 6600 256Mb.
I started immediately with Debian, but I have a problem, with the Desktop Environment Mate (tried on Debian and Fienix)
it shows me small repeated glitches, changing color and opacity in the windows, altering writing etc...
In some discussions and guides I read that the situation would be solved by installing the package "xserver-xorg-video-nouveau",
instead to me this package makes the situation drastically worse, after logging in, I see only confused horizontal lines.
I tried XFCE, LXDE and Plasma (slow but it goes) and they don't give me this problem, GNOME seems broken in both X11 and Wayland.
Am I missing some steps?
Thanks in advance
Matteo

The problem appear on Void too, now I'm on Void with XFCE, i don't check firmware package about this is all by default.

The Free Linux drivers for the 6600 are a little bit funky on Intel, on Big Endian Power they are even worse. FreeBSD's nv driver is somewhat better though.

Okay next try is with FreeBSD.
Are the old proprietary Nvidia drivers not installable on Debian PPC64?

I didn't think nVidia ever released one for BE Power? Definitely though, the only Power driver nVidia releases now is for LE.
