Desktop Gadget

I'm coming from windows and a new os x user. I really like desktop gadget on windows, and was wondering if there is something similar on OS X.

I know about Dashboard, but what i want is those gadget right on the desktop without having to switch out of my desktop and into dashboard.

Go to System Preferences, then the Mission Control pane.
Change Dashboard: to As Overlay.

That setting then makes Dashboard overlay your desktop, without switching out of that screen (but only while you have Dashboard in view)
It's not the same as Windows gadget, as you can't keep the dashboard widgets on the screen full time - but, it's closer than the default "switch to a space" for dashboard.
