Desktop Icon Arrangement

The icons in my desktop when I do sort by ......., the space between them vertically is very wide, is there way to decrease it?

command - J, reduce icon size and font size. I know of no other way sans 3rd party applications

well I tried that but the spacing from one icon to the next is like 2 inches on my screen, its really way to much. I just want to be cushion between icons around 1/4 in.

is it any better with the labels shown on the right? That's how I have mine set up and my spacing is around 1/4 inch.

Ok Look at the space between the icons its ridiculous, I want to maybe make them closer.

oh, I thought you meant 2 inches vertically. Yeah, when there are multiple rows, I get the same spacing. Don't know how to stop this.

I say have less icons.

On your desktop go to View and then Show View Options.
Uncheck Snap to grid and Keep arranged By.
Then you can move the icons anywhere on the desktop, at least
this works on my PowerBook G4. Hope this helps.
