Desktop Icons Off Screen After Updates

I bought a new 15"MBP yesterday and just now applied all the software updates to it. Upon rebooting the computer, all the desktop icons were stacked up on top of each other on the upper left corner almost completely off screen.I dragged each one to the middle of the screen but how can I get them arrange automatically on the right like they once were?

I right click on the desktop and select arrange by name and nothing happens.

Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Copy com.apple.finder.plist to the desktop. Delete the file in Preferences. Open Terminal. Type killall Finder.
