Desktop issues.

I am having a problem with my desktop on my imac. When i download items to my desktop such as pictures or videos i am unable to find the files on desktop. I have to go to finder and search for the files. They will show up if i go to finder>desktop then i'll see files that dont show up. Is this normal?

How are your Finder > Preferences set? You could also go to Terminal and:
killall Finder

Yeah, this happens occasionally. Restart and it will fix it (not sure what causes this).
