Hi,
Are there any free solutions to be able to help a friend out by remotely controlling his computer? either as an iChat add-ons or seperate software? what about remotely controlling a windows pc?

http://www.logmein.com provides a service for PCs. You download their software onto a PC, and you can access it anywhere there is internet service via logmein.com. You can't download their software on a Mac though, and remote control a Mac.

For that, I use VNC. I use OSXvnc to set a server and password on my iBook, then when I am at school and need to access my iBook, and use RealVNC or TightVNC to log in.

I use Chicken of the VNC to connect and osxVNC to create a server. Both free and very easy to set up.
