desktop show view options>show item info doesn't show HD total/free space?

i had it before where under my macintosh HD label it would show my disk's total space and remaining free space. now it just shows the total space. i don't know how this happened, but i just noticed it. anyone know how i can get it to the old way? i've been playing around with font size and everything, but it doesn't work. no, it's not truncated or anything (i think)

I'd try ditching the Finder preferences and see what that does. If that doesn't work, try this

thanks, but trashing the finder prefs didn't work, and the link doesn't provide a workaround. :-/

are my ownership permission for my HD supposed to look like this? what is wheel?:

Are you in an admin account? I have the same behaviour in a non-admin account (only the total space is shown), but in the admin account, both total and free space is shown.

yea the permissions look OK. If you really want to know more about UNIX permissions, read this

have you tried to reset the PRAM? Worth a shot.

yep, my account is the only account on the computer
