Desktop Spaces in Mountain Lion

Does anybody know if it is possible to move to a new clear desktop space and start up an application just to use in that space only. I ask this as sometimes I have a few apps open on say desktop 1, want to move to desktop 2 which is has no apps open on it to use another app, and flip back, rather than have to previoulsy configure specific applications to a specific workspace.
