Two questions (maybe related?): I chose a vacation picture I took as my desktop background and it is much larger (and not wide-screen ratio of course) than my Macbook screen. So I choose "Fill Screen" instead of "Stretch to Fill Screen" because "Fill Screen" looks a bit more correct aspect-ratio-wise. I can even see the difference as I flip it back and forth. But when I close out of system prefs and come back in, the drop down says I'm in "Stretch to Fill Screen" mode! But I didn't pick that! And furthermore, if I DO pick stretch mode, it vertically squashes my picture. Is this choosing mechanism broken or what?

Second question: WHAT for the love of god is the easiest way to take one of my vacation pics and *really* make it fit properly on this screen? Is there a super-easy way in iPhoto to crop to the right resolution?
