Hi,
My desktop items cannot be arranged as they used to be. I turned on my Mac today to find out my desktop icons messed up (not arranged --Image link) so I clicked on view options and arranged them by name but nothing happened. There's a huge gap between items. So far I cannot figure out how to fix this. It's annoying because this way the items are taking more space of the desktop.

Any how to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Go to "Macintosh HD:Users:your user name:Library:preferences" delete the file called "com.apple.finder.plist". Now log out, then log back in.
You will have to redo you Finder setting.

NEXT!

Thanks! But before I go delete that (com.apple.finder.plist)...
What do you mean by "redo your Finder setting"? Just to make sure not to screw up anything.

lol, I had a felling you would ask that.
Finder settings.... If you had your icons set at a certain size, you would have to reset that. If your in the Finder, Click the Finder drop down menu, then click on preferences. Anything you set in there. Or the view options for windows.

If your still squeamish, you can just drag the plist file to the desktop instead.
That way you can drag it back if you freak.
The Finder settings are very low key. Don't worry. Nothing drastic will happen.

Still having the same problem!
After I log out and log back in everything's working fine. Then after I open view options to restore my old settings I get the same problem back again. :(

Yes, after I set icon size to less than 40x40 and text size to 10 it happens.
I've always had these settings until earlier today when I noticed this problem.

I've downloaded Pref Setter, would it be useful ??

EDIT:
I did a quick test on all text sizes and it looks like this only happens when I set text size to 10, 13 or 16 !!
Any other size would work fine no matter what icon size is set.

Yeah, running OS X 10.4.5 !

It's not that big of a deal, I mean I can have my text set to 11 and it won't be much of a difference than 10 but what bothers me is that I hate it when I find something wrong and I cannot fix it. :(

Please keep me tuned whenever you find anything to solve this. And thanks alot for everything.
I'll keep searching through other Mac forums

Weird. Oh well. I hate not being able to fix something too. :p
But this looks like a problem that Apple needs to fix.
