desktop wallpaper

My wallpaper is like frozen. and when I open up the desktop/screen saver window to manage it, the screen saver tab seems to work but the desktop window is blank. Once things seemed to blink initially but then it went to blank and there was nothing I could do. I even rebooted my computer.

I have also a problem with the wallpaper after waking up my MacBook Pro 2017. The screen flashes when I wake it up from sleep. I first see the default background of Catalina which can also be seen, for about (1-2 seconds) when logging in and then the screen jumps to my own background.
