Is there any way to have my name displayed in the upper right hand corner?
(by the time/date, spotlight)

in the Accounts pane of System Preferences, choose "Login Options" (in bottom of left pane), then check the box next to "Enable fast user switching." choose from the drop-down list how you want your name to appear (full or short).
