I have spent what feels like HOURS (OK, it actually has been hours) looking for folio style iPad Pro 9.7" cases that contain a stylus or Apple Pencil holder INSIDE the case. This is pretty common for Mini cases... why not for iPad pros?? I've used cases with stylus loops on the side, or on the outside, and they get caught every single time I pull the case in and out of my work bag. There is a Dodo case that in interesting, but I don't need the bulk of a notebook (see here: http://www.dodocase.com/products/ipad-pro-9-7-folio-case) and there is STM Atlas case that is interesting, but expensive (and ugly!, see here: http://www.stmbags.com/ipad-cases/ipad-pro-cases/atlas-ipad-pro-case.html). I have searched all the threads but can't seem to find anyone else wondering who would want their $100 apple pencil dangling on the outside of their case.

It's not released yet, but here's what you're wanting:

I found this... she is willing to sew a custom apple pencil holder inside the spine: https://www.etsy.com/listing/232199239/personalized-leather-ipad-mini-case-ipad
I'm also looking for something rather lovely to complement my iPad Pro 9.7" rather than something cheap and tacky. I had the apple smart keyboard briefly, but returned it as despite the cost, I don't see it lasting.

I found your thread, and wondered if you ordered this case, as it looks exactly what I'm looking for. If so, how is it?

Thanks, Peter

I just took the plunge and ordered the Speck Stylefolio Pencil for my Ipad Pro 9.7. I was going to wait on an STM case that has a pencil holder but that one didn't have the "inkwell" to conveniently hold the pencil during use and it also doesn't appear to have a typing position. My current case doesn't have the typing position and I really miss it. Then today I was using my IPP at the kitchen table and someone picked up the pencil to make a note, thinking it was a weird looking pen. Time for a case with a pencil well. My biggest concern is that I won't be able to use the pencil cozy but if I'm not putting the pencil in a bag to carry it about I don't think the cap will come off - at least thats the only way it's come off so far.

Speck has an offer of $10 off a $50+ purchase, free shipping and free returns in 30 days no questions asked.

I'll report back when I receive the case.

I just received the case and I'm sending it back w/o even putting in the iPad. The case looks very protective and well-made, but when I tested the pencil holder by turning the case upside down over my bed the pencil fell right out. Maybe this is a defect from an early manufacturing run, but I'm disappointed.

Edit: I was concerned that I didn't give the case a good test. I thought if the iPad was in the case it would make the pencil compartment more rigid. I was really hoping it would work but the pencil still falls out. So then I tried it with the pencil cozy on but that was too thick.

Given that the magnets are strong enough to turn the iPad on and off, but not strong enough to hold the case closed, it's not worth it to me to try to find just the right material to make the pencil large enough to stay in the slot.

I purchased this STM Dux Plus Case directly from STM because it's been consistently unavailable on Amazon. The cover is light, actually very similar to the Apple silicone cover, but the rim on the back protects the screen, and the back itself is very sturdy. The pencil slot holds the pencil very securely. The pencil with a rubber grip and pencil cozy fits in the slot but prevents the cover from closing.

Because of that I suspect that since the 'basic' back, without the cover, with a pencil slot facing away from the iPad would hold the pencil with modifications and not block the cover. I though about exchanging this case for the simpler one and buying an apple silicone cover but that's not worth the additional $49 it would cost me.

But if you're 'desparate' for an iPad Pro case that stores the pencil inside here's an option. Here's a link to the STM site for more photos and details: https://www.stmbags.com/ipad-cases/ipad-pro-cases/dux-plus-ipad-pro-case.html

Can you expand on this? Do you mean you thought about returning the Dux Plus and buying the Apple Silicone Case? If so, what would hold the Pencil?

Thanks.

I thought about buying the Dux Pro, which is just the back but with a pencil holder, and then an apple silicone cover. That would have given me the protection of the Dux case and the pencil holder, and would have allowed me to retain the pencil cozy. But, it would have cost me the same amount to buy the Dux Pro, with or without the front cover, $60, and an additional $49 to buy the apple silicone cover. I have the silicone case and cover on my ipad mini 4, and its not that hard to tip it over in the viewing position. Since the Ipad Pro is heavier I figured that it would be even less stable. The Dux Plus Pro has a magnetic flap one the cover which is very easy to handle when opening and closing the ipad, and also serves the double purpose of increasing the stability of the ipad especially in the viewing position. If I'm not clear let me know and i'll try again.

Hello to all in this thread. Glad to see people want a Pro 9.7 case with pen loop inside! Here's a case that I designed: True Blue BookCase, available direct from trueblueproducts.com (don't want to post a link in my first post, so please add the www and away you go). These are US made book-style like the DodoCase, but just $36. Pen loop and paperwork pocket both included, pen loop is indeed inside the case. Hope that helps!

This took me a crazy long time to understand. The STM Dux and STM Dux Plus both have a place to store pencil - I thought "pencil holder" and "pencil cozy" were interchangeable.

But it seems the "pencil cozy" is an item made by Jisoncase so you don't lose the pencil cap. I think what jrs22 is saying is that the design of the pencil holder on the 'Dux' case allows him/her to keep the pencil cozy - but the 'Dux Plus' case can't accomodate the pencil with the Jisoncase pencil cozy installed on the pencil. Am I correct in interpreting your posts?
