i have a new 30" crt hdtv (sanyo). it's beautiful on hd. the problem is hooking up my mac via hdmi.
i plugged up my macbook via the mini-dvi to dvi and dvi to hdmi cables going into the tv. the cable is 4 feet.
essentially, the tv picture is scrambled when the mac is driving it. remember when you played old 8-bit nintendo games, and the game picture would get messed up because the connectors were bad? it looks like that. that's at 1920x1080i. now, if i switch the resolution to 1280x720, the picture is isn't so bad... the still picture looks ok, but not any better than an sdtv connection. on top of that, the refresh seems totally out of whack - moving the cursor or windows/icons leaves a stuttered, ghosting effect, and dvds are unwatchably jerky. all the other resolution settings mess up the screen completely like the 1920x1080i setting. i've tried it at 59.9 and 60 hertz with the same results.
the primary use for this tv was to watch dvds and my wife's japanese tv shows, but now i can't do any of that. the tvs specs say 1080i is the default resolution of the tv. what's wrong?
