Dev Challenge!

Okay, so this has been implemented on Android and I'm sure many iPhone users have wanted it at some point. I'd love the ability to speak something, and have it transcoded into text in any app. This could be achieved through activator, or even the action menu. It'd be great to be able to input text anywhere there is an input ability, with obvious uses being texting while driving or searching Google maps.

What do you guys think? Would this be useful?

i think there is an app store app called Dragon Dictation that does this

I'm aware of this, I was referencing the ability to do it anywhere in any app, without having to switch apps, speak text, copy to clipboard, and then switch back.

There's an app for that. A few good ones actually, I like Dragon Dictation.

Edit- saw your second post. That would be pretty sweet.

There is already an app that does this from cydia. I had it on my ipod for a while but I had to restore and update to 4.3 so I lost my jailbreak. If I can remember the name, ill post it here. It was really cool. I remember in the menu options you selected the app, song, pretty much anything and then you set the voice command to activate it.

Here is VoiceActivator that you spoke of.

While this is a great start, I'm thinking more along the lines of speaking, but then transcoding that to text for use immediately. So possibly not even bringing up the voice control screen, but a simple prompt that you'd speak to, hit a big 'finished' button, and it'd insert that text into a currently active field.

Make sense?

I would love to see this as well as an integrated Swype-style option. I would use both extensively.
