Hi Everyone,
First I'm not a developer, not yet although I've just begun learning at a snails pace.
Growing up I played Soccer for a short while then got into Track & Field (100m, 110m Hurdles, Long Jump). As the rest of my family is heavily into physical fitness/healthy eating you can say anything that has to do with legs is interwoven into my life, so much so loosing that capability to walk, run, jump, wiggle my toes, and even escape from tickle torture is one of my 3 biggest fears (now 4) in life or approaching death. So much that I cringe at the thought of any of these with my imaginative mind.
Burning
Drowning
Para/Quadrapalegic
Tickle Tourcher of the feet
Like you I read about, even commented on the main site article Apple Highlights Accessibility Features in New 'Designed for' Video Series back in May this year. We all know Apple is a leader in Accessibility Features in computing, if not THE best in the industry. Yet somehow I forgotten about this particular video, or the highlight.
Just moments ago I cam across the full WWDC 2017 Video Session - Convenience for You is Independence for Me. This video brought me laughs, and seriously moved me to tears, full out balling right at the end. I'm actually grateful for Tod, The Quadfather's, inner strength and comedy and insight to his life with Siri and Accessibility.
This led me to ask ... what sort of Applications are you developers working on that helps those wtih Accessibility, and is the apps primary focus on this or is it a bonus?
Watching The Quadfather's navigation through his iPhone, had me surprised just how fast and accurate he's able to do this with his tongue ... and yet I realized a MAJOR MAJOR limitation. Something that ... potentially (knock on wood) could scarily end his life ... choking. When someone chokes ... their voluntary control of their mouth, tongue and voice is gone ... not because we're not capable but because the sheer amount of mental focus just isn't there. I have no idea what senses adjust or if that's not something a quadrapalegic would ever experience yet I began to think .... TrueDepth Camera system in iPhone X!
Navigation, and potentially fixed-focus or pre-arranged/saved eye/head movement could be done in cases of emergencies. Maybe even Apple HealthKit tied to recognize seizures.
Hell I don't know anything about coding or just how difficult it is to loose control of any limb for the rest of my life, and I pray I don't first hand. I do care and hope someone with amazing coding skills does just as much or more - maybe even a dialog of what's possible now, and what is requested/hoped for by Apple in the future.
Cheers.
