Carrier Device activation on Sprint network.. how to?

In the past when I was with Verizon, I just popped my sim into new phone and it was ready to go.

Apparently, with Sprint, you have to activate your SIM with new phone. Is that true?

Anyone who have activated, please chime in with the activation process...
