Would appreciate it if anyone could help with my understanding of device encryption in iOS, Android, and Windows Phone.

I have always assumed that iOS devices are encrypted out of the box. But I was just thinking about the fact that iOS devices don't enforce use of a passcode. Does this means the encryption keys are stored within the iPhone/iPad hardware (perhaps like a TPM chip in Windows laptops)?

Android devices seem to require turning on Encryption in security settings. When I select "Encrypt Device" in settings, a message comes up saying "you will need to enter a PIN or password to decrypt it every time you turn it on".

Would this be a separate PIN/password to my lock screen password (i.e. would have have to enter two PIN/passwords each time I turn on the device)?

Would I still be able to connect my phone to my computer as a media device (MTP) after turning on phone and SD card encryption?

How is device & SD card encryption implemented in Windows Phone?

Thanks
