After installing Mac OS 10.10 and finding it unsuitable, the partition was erased and renamed "Macintosh HD". The latest pre-10.10 Time Machine backup was then restored. Unfortunately the previous HD name was simply "Macintosh" and upon booting the process stalls looking for that. It has been found, by booting the backup partition with 10.9.2 on it, by running <diskutil info> for the volume, that although the volume name remains "Macintosh", the so-called "Device / Media Name" is "Macintosh HD". How would one go about changing this "Device / Media Name" to simply "Macintosh"?
