Device panel

I inadvertently did something which caused my Macbook to lose the Devices panel on the left hand side after opening the Macintosh HD icon. Does anyone know how to get it back please?

Finder -> Menu Bar -> Finder -> Preferences -> "Show these items on the desktop".

Actually, I believe he was referring to the sidebar. In which case, follow sammich's directions (meaning go to the finder's preferences window), then click the "sidebar" tab.
