Good day,
I would like to ask, if is device value of (for example) iPhone 6 with iOS 9 bigger than iPhone 6 with iOS12?

Does it make sense to collect iDevices with older versions of iOS? Will someone pay for it more?

What about collection of for example iPad Airs with different versions of iOS. Lets say iPad Air with iOS 8 and iOS 10... Will someone buy it for some special needs?

The other thing is that batteries will stop working in some time. And after iDevices will not have the value... So it probbably does not make sense to have this devices for 20 years. What do you think?

Or it is better to sell iDevice with older iOS version because it will probbably not have bigger value because of iOS version?

I don't REALLY follow this terribly closely, but I know that-for example-I've been advised to leave my iPhone 4s at iOS 6 rather than upgrading to the newest it can use(8?).

I also have an iPad 2 on iOS 6, and I've received similar advice on it.

I know there is some interest in preserving older versions of iOS, especially since, unlike a Mac, installing an older version is not straightforward.

For pre-iPhone-4, where it's possible to downgrade to any supported version at any time, I don't think there's much market.

For specific select combinations later when you can't just downgrade willynilly - iPhone 5/iPad 4th gen with iOS 6, iPad Air 2/iPhone 7 on iOS 10 come to mind - sure.

Some people really hated the minimalist iOS 7 and later, so getting one of the highest-end devices still running the skeuomorphic iOS 6 would probably carry a slight premium. Same with running iOS 10 (the last OS that can run 32-bit apps) on the highest-end hardware that can run it. People who need to run 32-bit apps may pay a premium. (I keep an iPad 4th gen around *SOLELY* to continue running some never-updated-to-64-bit apps.)

But outside those "specific iOS version preferences on the latest hardware that supports it," I don't see much interest outside pure "gotta collect 'em all" circles.
