In preparation for my new iPhone, I decided to backup my old iPhone to my computer so I could restore from backup. This iPhone has never been backed up. When I tried to backup, I kept getting an error saying "Error Occurred" and the backup wouldn't complete. When I got my new iPhone, I didn't want to start as New, so I backed up my old iPhone to the cloud and restored my new iPhone from the cloud backup. Now again, I'm trying to backup my new iPhone to my computer. Now the backup seems to go through and I don't get an error, but under Latest Backup, it's saying "Your iPhone has never been backed up to this computer".

I have an iPad that was previously backed up to my computer so I decided to see if I could back it up and it seems to be backing up, but it also says, "Your iPad has never been backed up to this computer". Before I tried do any of these backups today, I looked in my preferences to see what backups I have and my prior iPad backups were showing, but after trying to backup my iPad and iPhone, the prior backups are gone. I don't know what to do and tried searching online for solutions, but can't seem to find any.

I can't see the issues being the devices as I'm having this problem with both my devices. I do use an external hard drive because I use my work laptop, which is windows.

I wasn't sure if this should be posted in the IOS 11 forum or somewhere else. If anyone think I will get more eyes on another thread, please let me know.
