So silly question here. Just did a screen swap (my second) on my 7 Plus. I dropped my phone about a month ago. Sent it into Apple to get the screen replaced for $169. They called me stateing the repair would actually be $350 because of a bent housing, so I told them to send it back. I ordered a replacement screen, installed it with no issues. Except the screen was faulty and touch input was sporadic. So I returned that screen, and ordered another one. This one has no issues with touch. However, now the home button is not working, and says "Home button needs to be serviced" or something (it only came up once), and automatically put assistive touch on the screen. Now it just says Touch ID cannot be used on this iPhone. I saw online that a DFU Restore can sometimes fix this issue. So my question is: Can the initial setup be started without a home button? Meaning after restore, when the phone reboots, it brings you to the "Hello" screen in different languages. I believe that screen says "Push home button to begin". But if the restore doesn't fix the home button issue, I am stuck, correct? There is no way to begin the setup without the home button? Can you complete the setup in iTunes? It's been such a long time since I have had to restore, so I don't remember the exact process and I'm sure its changed since then. Right now I'm content having a working phone, and I could probably live without Touch ID or a functioning home button. So if there is no alternative, I'll just leave it be. I'd rather be stuck using assistive touch as a home button than a phone where I can't even use it.

Honestly, I would leave it be. I wouldn't risk locking yourself out of your device. You could try opening the phone again to check that the cable is properly seated for the Touch ID, but other than that, there's not much else you could do.
